Netflix Reveals For The First Time Region By Region Subscriber Numbers In Regulatory Filing

Netflix

Netflix has for the first time shared a detailed breakdown of its subscriber numbers outside the United States. The region by region information has been shared in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. It has kept the nitty-gritty details under wraps for long even after surpassing its domestic business. The latest data comes at a time when Netflix is facing competition from likes of Apple TV Plus, Disney+ and some other streaming services that are ready to debut in 2020. According to data, the US and Canada remain the biggest market but Africa and the Middle East collectively come second. Netflix has registered the fastest growth in the Asia-Pacific region by tripling its subscribers to around 14.5 million in the last 36 months.

At the end of September, the number of Netflix paying subscribers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, known as EMEA, was 47.4 million. Much less than 67.1 million paid members in the US and Canada. In terms of percentage, EMEA has registered a growth of 40 percent from a year earlier whereas it is just 6.5 percent in the US and Canada. With 29.4 million paid members, Latin America is the third biggest market for Netflix. It has registered a growth of 22 percent from a year earlier. In terms of number, Asia-Pacific is the smallest with just 14.5 million subscribers of Netflix but it has registered strong growth at 53 percent.

In its filing, the streaming giant said that 90 percent of its subscriber growth is out of the United States. In terms of revenue generation per subscriber, Netflix is collecting maximum money from users in the US and Canada markets. The Netflix subscribers of this region have to pay USD 13.08 each for a one-month subscription. Subscribers in EMEA pay USD 10.40 a month, in Asia-Pacific a user pays USD 9.29 and in Latin America the charges are USD 8.63. The figures have been disclosed as Netflix is going to change its report earning. The company will not report its performance in four sectors.
