The popular instant messaging app WhatsApp is rolling out new support for group calls. The new feature allows users to join a group call anytime. It means that a user can join a group in the middle of a chat. WhatsApp said that if a user misses a group call, the user can now join the call with the help of the new feature. The support is for both the group voice and video calls. The new feature is called Joinable calls. The company said that it will reduce the burden on the user of answering a call when it starts. The feature will further ease in-person conversations on the platform. In a video group call, all the participants share the screen like other apps.
WhatsApp said that users can also drop-off in the middle and re-join the call till it lasts. Group calling is one of the popular features of WhatsApp. It currently allows eight people to join a group video call. The platform saw a rise in usage of group video calls during the pandemic time. WhatsApp said that it has also created a call info screen. The screen will show the users who are already on the call. This will give users a choice to avoid a participant if they don’t wish to connect. The screen will also show the participants who have been invited to join the group call and have not yet joined.
The company has added a new button ‘ignore’. When hit, the user will not be able to join the call immediately and can join later. To join an ongoing call, users will have to use the calls tab. The group video call history will also appear in the same tab. Users can even see the individual participants from the call by tapping the call history. WhatsApp said that when a user receives a group video call, the screen will show the participants currently on the call. The first contact on the call will be the person that invited you for the group chat. WhatsApp video group call feature is one of the easiest modes for people to connect during the Covid-19 times.
