Sony’s Newest Flagship Xperia 5 III Smartphone Finally Makes Debut in the US Market

Sony Xperia 5 III

Sony phones have had a lot of delays in their releases lately. Eight months after the official introduction of the phone, Sony finally brings the Xperia 5 III to America. The $2,500 Xperia Pro 5G, which cost $2,500, was released in February 2020. It arrived in January 2021. Before it arrived in the States, the Xperia 1 II flagship took a few extra steps.

The Xperia 5 III is the latest example of a Sony phone that has been delayed. It’s not a terrible phone. It’s actually quite good. It doesn’t belong in 2022, even with the handsome $1000 asking price. The Frosted Black trim will only be available for unlocking from authorized retailers. The official Sony online store is the only place to find the stunning green color.

Sony will also give away a pair WF-1000XM3 noise-canceling headphones worth $200 to anyone who orders before February 27. The Xperia 5 III is priced at $800 but it still stands out against great rivals such as the $799 Samsung Galaxy S21 FE and iPhone 13 Pro.

It has 8GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. Surprisingly, the phone also has a microSDXC slot which can add 1TB to its storage. The Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm’s flagship chip for 2021, is under the hood. The phone runs Android 11. The phone still runs Android 11.

The back three cameras rely on 12-megapixel sensors that are arranged in a familiar wide + ultrawide plus telephoto array. This is a periscope-style, telephoto zoom camera. An 8-megapixel front camera can handle selfies or video calls. Sony seems to have thrown away all its expertise in the camera department, which is a result of borrowing from the Alpha line professional cameras. Camera tricks include 4K HDR video capture (24/25/30/60fps), and 120 fps slow-motion video recording.

It is beautiful, but boring because Sony has used it for years. It is made of glass and metal sandwich construction, and IP68-rated. This means that it can withstand a few underwater excursions during a party. It’s also slim and tall thanks to its tall, 6.1-inch OLED display at 120Hz with a 21/9 aspect ratio.

Real-Time Eye AI for humans and animals will also be available to enhance portraits. Continuous AF and Subject Tracking are available to help you focus on moving elements within the frame. Sony claims that its BionzX engine in-house will reduce noise in low-light photographs, and the burst mode at 20 fps for stills provides some much-needed flexibility. With the Xperia 5 III, the dedicated physical shutter continues to be popular. The 3.5mm headphone jack is also present.
