Second-Generation Kia Niro Debuts In Seoul With Emphasis On Sustainability, Styling

Business

Days after being teased, the second-generation Kia Niro has made its debut at Seoul Mobility Show. The redesigned Niro has will be available in fully electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid – just like the outgoing model. This reflects how focused the Korean automaker is on reducing emissions. But the bigger emphasis this time has been on styling and sustainability. The overall design gives a more of a crossover look and has been inspired by the Habaniro. Kia’s ‘Tiger Nose’ interpretation is clearly visible with a thin trim piece spanning the width of the front end. While the bumper has a lower skid plate element, the grille looks like a large mouth. It will sport large headlight units with ‘heartbeat’ LED running lights.

The charging port has been given at the center of a slightly smaller grille with unique detailing. Things start getting more interesting when we move to the side view. The glossy black body cladding that starts near the front wheels extends way back to the rear wheels. In order to give a matching look, the entire C-pillar has been finished with gloss black and made thicker. There are enough curves on the sides to give a bold and tough look to the vehicle. There are thin vertical LED taillights that go all the way up to the roof and make it look super cool. The rear bumper has light pods that augment well with the tail light. They are likely to contain indicators and reverse lights. The raked-up back has a large spoiler and the overall design complement Kia’s way of making its cars look different in the crowd.

The interior is going to remind you about the electric EV6 crossover. You will see one big display that will have the combined digital gauge cluster and central infotainment screen. There is an angular shape dashboard that flows onto the door panels. The center console has an electronic shifter in a dial shape alongside other controls. Kia has given touch buttons as well as physical knobs to control the climate inside the vehicle. The company has not shared any powertrain details as of now. However, it will not be surprising at all if it will share the setup with Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson. In terms of range, the new vehicle should have a longer range than existing models. Kia Niro is expected to go on sale next year. The prices may range from USD 25,000 to 30,000. This would mean it is going to be slightly costlier than the outgoing Niro.
