Lyft is Helping Some US Cities to Fight the Coronavirus by Offering Free and Discounted Rides

Amid the increased spread of coronavirus, Lyft is offering discounted or free bike-share rides for healthcare workers. The ride-hailing company is asking workers in Boston, New York City, and Chicago to sign up for the service for free. Along with that, it is offering discounted trips or single-month memberships. Lyft notes it’s also speeding up its cleaning processes to make sure that its bikes are properly sanitized amid trips. So far, the public transport business continues to plunge in most of the cities. Even more, people are viewing ride-sharing as an unsafe alternative.

Meanwhile, an increased number of people are looking to avoid public transportation amid coronavirus pandemic. Some people have even opted for cycling in cities like Philadelphia, NYC, and Chicago. In such circumstances, Lyft’s low-priced bike-share could become particularly useful. Bill de Blasio, a New York Mayor, has praised the effort of Lyft. He said frontline workers in the city are making sacrifices to assist and secure the people. Blasio has also thanked Lyft for coming forward and helping them to combat the pandemic by offering frontline workers with a free and safe ride.

Lyft, the largest bike-share operator in North America, is seeking to come forward and help those people who are on the battle line of the outbreak. In New York City, it will offer a free 30 days Citi Bike membership for transit workers, first responders, and hospital employees. Well, these people can get passes from their employers. Before that, the employers have to send details of their staff at [email protected] for the enrolment process. Even more, anyone working in the fields mentioned above can avail offers. The deal is also applicable for the workers in these sectors who have recently bought a membership or have a forthcoming membership renewal. After this preliminary trial, Lyft and its allies will decide whether ridership requirements and re-evaluate accordingly.

Well, the ride-hailing giant has announced discounted plans for Chicago and Boston too. In Chicago, Divvy, a Lyft-owned bike-share company, has announced its functioning with the CDOT (Chicago Department of Transport). Under this effort, Divvy is offering half-off 12-month membership for $49.50 along with $1 Single Rides up to April 30. Apart from this, eligible healthcare workers will get free unlimited 45-minute classic bike rides for 300 days from Divvy. On the other hand, Boston Bluebikes will offer free one-month membership for hospital workers. Even more, suitable employees will gain a $20 discount code to get the one-month pass for free.
