Spanish midfielder, Ander Herrera has said that he enjoys a “fantastic relationship” with his coach at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho. Herrera said that Jose is a charismatic boss and has infused new energy in the team since taking charge in 2016. The midfielder has been off color this season but expects United to stay brush aside late September charge by Tottenham and chase down leaders Manchester City.
Things were heated after Herrera made comments after shock loss to Huddersfield last Saturday. The Spanish playmaker said that Huddersfield players were more passionate on the field which angered Jose Mourinho. Jose was angry and said that the team was in a really bad attitude. The manager did not have explanation to Herrera’s comments.
Amidst reports of rift between Jose Mourinho and Ander Herrera, United got back to winning ways. The team beat Swansea 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday Night. This was more than enough to silence the critics as Jesse Lingard scored a brace. The first goal by Lingard in the 21st minute came off a Herrera pass.
Clarifying his comments, Herrera said that his statement was misjudged and he only praised the better attitude displayed by the Huddersfield players. After the victory over Swansea City FC, Herrera said that what happened was just in the heat of the moment and the team has forgotten. The team right now wants to focus on Saturday’s clash with Tottenham. United are currently second in the Premier League, just above Spurs on goal difference.
It is busy week ahead for United as they host Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday. And then next Sunday, Mourinho will face his old team Chelsea at Old Trafford. United have their task cut out as Tottenham are having a great run in both domestic as well as European competition. Harry Kane is leading the goal sheet while Spurs held Real Madrid to a draw in their own backyard, Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
