Beef and milk lovers, if you want to enjoy these two delicious foodstuffs eat it right away after you buy it from the market. The habit of preserving these two food items in the refrigerator might affect your healthy life. According to the research conducted by the scientists at the University of Central Florida, storing beef and milk for a longer period of time in refrigerator induces the growth of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) thus increasing the risk of rheumatoid arthritis.
They performed an experiment to find the relation between the two. The MAP is known to damage intestine and develop a disease known as Crohn’s disease. Both the diseases – Crohn’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis can be treated with the same genetic drug as both have similar genetic structure. Around 100 individuals were tested for rheumatoid arthritis. 40 percent individuals were linked with a MAP and had same genetic alteration as that of Crohn’s disease. Saleh Naser, co-author of the study says, “People with such genetic mutations who are later infected with the MAP after consuming milk or meat develop a high risk of rheumatoid arthritis.”
Researchers believe that rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease are dependent on each other and can occur in same individual one after the other. Further investigation will involve finding if these two occur in the same individual within the certain time span.
Shazia Beg, co-author of the study says, “We need to explore if the MAP is the main factor for causing rheumatoid arthritis or there are other certain factors.” “An important exploration involves to know if rheumatoid arthritis is caused because the cell is infected by MAP or rheumatoid arthritis leads to the generation of the MAP in the body”, she further added.
Our main motivation is to target people who are suffering from both rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease due to the presence of MAP.
