Regular Diet of Vegetables, Fruits, and Whole Grains Lowers Risk of Depression, Study Says

The study was conducted in US on about a thousand people with average age of 81, for more than six years. The report was presented at the American Academy of Neurology’s Annual Meeting held in Los Angeles. The study says continuous consumption of healthy diets such as fruits, vegetable, and whole grain is an easier way to fight against depression. Depression is the main problem for all ages people. For instance, one in five people is suffering from depression in Britain. And seven percent of adults in US are suffering from depression per year which is a huge amount. The state received from NHS Digital shows that doctors prescribe around 64 million prescriptions per year that is worth of £9.2 billion.

In the study period, participants were observed and categorized by symptoms of depression such as bothering by things that generally didn’t affect them and feelings of hopeless toward future. They found people stuck to healthy diets such as vegetables such as amaranth, arugula, beet, borage greens, broccoli, and cabbage were 11 percent less affected by these symptoms of depression. Also, the study witnessed consumption of fruits and whole gain can reduce symptoms significantly. Also, the researchers asked to fill forms of questionnaires about how often people ate various foods.

On the contrary, the people who followed the western diet and consumed red meat more they were harshly affected by depression. A diet with high saturated fats and red meat can increase many-body problems significantly. Dr. Laurel Cherian, author of one of the studies conducted into Rush University Medical Centre in Chicago said that depression is the common in adults, who are suffering from diseases such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

One of the recent studies has stated that antidepressants are effective but they are not the universal way to treat depression. So maintaining the healthy diet is the only way to avoid depression and its symptoms for a longer duration.
