The opening of Tokyo International Film Festival will take place on October 25, 2017, with a local film ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’ and will celebrate the closing ceremony on November 3, 2017, with film ‘An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power’.
An Eminent American Actor and Filmmaker Tommy Lee Jones will lead the jury of this year’s TIFF (Tokyo International Film Festival’, as organizers stated at a press conference.
Jones will act as the jury at the film festival along with other juries Iranian director Reza Mirkarimi, Chinese actress Zhao Wei, French director cum writer Martin Provost and local actor Masatoshi Nagase to judge the 15 features in the most important competition.
Talking about the opening film ‘Fullmental Alchemist’ is a live-action film based on a popular manga/anime franchise. While the closing film ‘An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power’ is an environmental documentary of a decade ago.
Festival’s special sections comprise Japanese Cinema Splash, Asian Future, Taiwanese Cinema Renaissance, the World of Steven Soderbergh and the anime focus World of Keiichi Hara.
The Tokyo International Film Festival’s TIFFCOM content market will run October 24-26, starting a day before the main event opens. For the first time, the festival is organized at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro which is just about 45 minutes away by public transport from the Roppongi Hils complex.
With an upcoming event Halloween, the 30th edition of TIFF will include horror special screening of Night of the Living Dead, as a tribute to George A. Romero.
