Popular mobile video game PUBG has announced to shut down the operation of its lighter version. It is called PUBG Lite. The Lite version will no longer be available to players worldwide. It will officially stop services on April 29. PUBG Lite was launched in 2019. The Lite version was designed especially to support entry-level smartphones. The developer of PUBG Mobile Krafton confirmed the news. It said that PUBG Lite services will end this month. The South Korean video game holding company said that the decision to close PUBG Lite was difficult. But members after much deliberation decided to end the journey. It thanked Lite fans for the support and expressed hope that PUBG Lite players had a great time.
The company said that its PUBG Lite Facebook page will continue to open after April 29. A separate notice will be issued regarding any changes. It said that player support will be terminated a month later. The decision to end PUBG Lite services comes days after its website was shut down. PUBG Lite’s website was shut down on March 30. It said that devices in which the game is installed will remain operational until the termination time. The lighter version shot to fame because it offered services to entry-level devices. It kept the traditional PUBG style of play alive. It took only 400 MB of space on a mobile. It supported smartphones with 2GB RAM.
PUBG Lite was one of the most popular video games that attracted a huge pool of players during the lockdowns. According to the company’s claim, there are more than 600 million downloads and 50 million active players across the world. PUBG Lite is already no longer available for download. Back in December 2020, the company announced to terminate the L-COIN top-up system. It became a fully free game since then. Channels for top-up too were shut down in the same month. The main version of the game was launched in 2017. It has already fetched over 100 million downloads on the Play Store.
