State Veterinarian Orders Quarantine of Infected Horse Facility

Health

16 March Saturday, State Veterinarian Dr JJ Goicoechea issued a Quarantine order for Infected Horse facility in Nevada State High School. When one of the horses in the Nevada High School contract the upper respiratory and neurology disease, the State Veterinarian ordered the quarantine of the facility to prevent the disease. Nevada Department of Agriculture found one horse in the facility infected with upper respiratory and neurology disease. As the State Department of Agriculture confirmed the infection of one dog with equine herpesvirus type 1, Veterinarian asked for total quarantine to prevent other horses from getting the same.

As of now, the name of the horse care facility is not shared by the authorities to prevent chaos amongst the neighbours. But, the contraction of the virus to the horses in Nevada State High school might tell us that the school facility will be quarantined. State Veterinarian said that he had issued the quarantine order to prevent the exposure of disease in the equine event in the state of Nevada and other states by any means. If the horses are exposed to Equine Herpesvirus type-1, the young horses may face respiratory diseases, pregnant female horses may have abortions, or the older horses may withstand neurological disorders.

The average time the Equine Herpes Virus type -1 takes to incubate is 3-5 days. But in the case of healthy horses, the time increases up to 15 days. But once incubated, the horses will get the symptoms like coughing, fever and runny nose, which if not treated, may turn into respiratory and neurological diseases.the EHV-1 is a reportable disease, which means the veterinarians need to report the details to the Nevada Department of Agriculture. The state department will provide the necessary support for treating the horses and in extreme cases like this, will order the quarantine of the facility.
